The Introduction to Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) for Public Health course is the first of a three-course series that provides foundational knowledge and skills for those assigned to a public health emergency operation centre. This course provides introductory knowledge about Emergency Operation Centre, their overall role and purpose, organizational structure, and personnel responsibilities, as well as various activation and operational considerations.
Course Goal and Objectives
Course Goal
To provide a foundational understanding of the purpose and responsibilities of an Emergency Operations Centre, common roles and responsibilities of personnel, and initial activation processes for those who may be assigned to a public health EOC during an emergency event.
Learning Outcomes
As a result of completing this course, you will be able to:
1. Describe how EOCs support emergencies and disasters.
2. Explain the purpose and responsibilities of an EOC.
3. Explain how EOCs fits within the broader public health emergency management framework.
4. Describe the Incident Management System - EOC organization.
5. List the responsibilities of common EOC roles and functions.
6. Describe considerations for staffing and EOC set-up.
7. Describe common EOC activation processes and practices.
8. Identify measures to support the performance and wellness of EOC personnel.
Course Expectations and Evaluation
In this self-paced course, you progress through on your own schedule. The course will take approximately 3-4 hours to complete and you are requested to complete the course within two weeks of enrollment.
General Expectations
Participants are expected to review all the content lessons, complete the practice knowledge checks, and obtain a passing grade on the final course exam.
Grading/Evaluation
This is a graded course. To pass the course, you must obtain a passing grade of 70% on the final course exam.Successful completion of this course is required to advance to higher level courses in this training series.
